Former bureaucrat and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Caretaker Chief Minister Azam Khan passed away on Saturday. He was 89.
According to the hospital administration, caretaker chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was brought to the hospital last night due to cardiac arrest.
The death of caretaker Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has been confirmed by a private hospital.
The funeral prayers were offered in Khan’s native village Parang in Charsadda.
Former bureaucrat Muhammad Azam Khan was appointed as the interim chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He led the caretaker setup whose prime task apart from maintaining the law and order situation will be ensuring transparent elections in the province.
Immediately, after his name was announced some people confused the gentleman with his namesake, Azam Khan, who was the principal secretary (PS) to then-Prime Minister Imran Khan until early April 2022.
Azam Khan held the following positions before and after his retirement as one of the top bureaucrats.
-Minister for Finance, Planning & Development KPK from October 24, 2007, to April 1, 2008.
Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar recalled the interim chief minister as “surely an honest and pious person”. He prayed for the deceased’s family to be given patience.
President Dr Arif Alvi was also grieved by the news and remembered that he found Khan a “gentleman” whenever he met him.
The ECP and the government also issued statements.
Interim Information Minister Murtaza Solangi said the chief minister was a “gentleman” and a “polite” person and caretaker Interior Minister Sarfraz Ahmed Bugti also prayed for Khan’s family.
