** Widespread rain in parts of Punjab and Islamabad has turned the weather cold after breaking a long dry spell.**
With this downpour, the weather turned cold. Low-lying areas of the twin cities and another district of Punjab came under water following the rain.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) predicted more rain in the federal capital and other areas of the country.
The forecast of the Met Office said that many parts of Islamabad are expected to receive snowfall while the weather will remain dry in the plain areas.
The PMD added that the rain was caused by a westerly wave that entered the country from Afghanistan. It said that more rain and snowfall are expected in the upper parts of the country in the next 24 hours. The PMD also issued a warning of landslides in the hilly areas due to the heavy rain.
The Met Office expressed the possibility of rain and thunderstorms in Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir and North-Eastern Punjab with strong winds and snowfall in the mountains.
In addition, it said the smog will persist in several areas of Punjab.
The rain also improved the air quality and reduced the smog and dust in the twin cities.
