Tick-borne disease claims another life in Karachi

Another death from Crimean-Congo Haemorrhagic Fever (CCHF) has been reported in Karachi. The death toll has risen to two in four days.

Mir Waiz, 30, was a resident of Quetta and was being treated in the private hospital of Karachi. He had been shifted from Balochistan to Karachi after being testing positive for Congo virus.

A total of 16 patients have been shifted from Balochistan to Karachi so far, while two patients including Dr Shukarullah have died from the ticks bite disease.

As per the details, two patients were discharged from the hospitals of Karachi after their treatment while 14 are still under treatment.

A tick-borne viral disease which leads a healthy person to death is spreading in Balochistan rapidly. It has also claimed the lives of doctors, and health workers.

The long-term effects of CCHF infection have not been studied well enough in survivors to determine whether or not specific complications exist. However, recovery is slow.
