Wasim Akram blames players fitness for Afghanistan defeat

Former captain of Pakistan Wasim Akram has criticised Pakistan’s cricket team’s performance following their defeat by Afghanistan in the World Cup 2023 and highlighted concerns about the players’ fitness.

Legendary pacer, while analyzing the performance of Pakistan’s elevens in the show ‘The Pavilion’ on Asports, revealed that no fitness criteria was being followed for two years, despite players gaining weight.

“Fielding is all about fitness,” he said: “I am with Misbah he had that criteria when he was coach, players hated him but it’s worked.”

“You have to perform because you are getting paid for this,” added Akram.

Talking about the potential future of the national cricket team in the ongoing tournament he said that maybe we would qualify in the quarter-final, That’s a big ‘maybe’, he said.

‘Management of officials have no Knowledge about cricket’

However, Moin Khan also owned Wasim Akram’s words and added that there should be planning before the biggest tournament.

He termed the tour of Sri Lanka, and the Asia Cup model—which was organized in Sri Lanka with the collaboration of Pakistan—made players lethargic.

Moin Khan said that these all belong to management and they don’t have any idea about cricket. “I don’t know from whom they take advice, but it is a big disaster.”
