Caretaker Information Minister Murtaza Solangi held a meeting with PTI leader Shafqat Mehmood at his residence where the two discussed matters related to the upcoming elections and a national reconciliation, the PTI said in a statement on Tuesday.
During the meeting, Mehmood claimed that the PTI has not been provided equal opportunity for political activities as the party has not been allowed to run election campaigns while other parties were free to hold rallies.
A range of topics came under discussion including the caretaker government’s role and interest in holding free and fair elections.
The two emphasised the need for reconciliation on the national level and to create a conducive environment for the upcoming elections.
The provision of equal opportunity to run election campaigns was of much signification, Mehmood said, adding: “Elections will lose peoples’ approval if they are held without addressing the uneven political landscape.”
He went on to add that justice and a fair trial were also essential requirements for conducting fair elections.
The national reconciliation efforts depend on the supremacy of the Constitution which was essential for the continuity of the democracy, he said, adding that such efforts would be incomplete without including the former ruling party.
Mehmood reiterated that his party was ready to cooperate in holding fair and free elections stipulated in the Constitution.
