Another case of polio was reported from Bannu in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, taking this year’s total positive cases across the country to three.
Health ministry officials confirmed that the virus had infected a female child in Bannu who was only one and a half year old. Officials said that the child has been paralysed as a result of the virus.
The latest case took Pakistan’s total number of cases in the ongoing year to three. All cases this year have been reported from Bannu.
Officials also confirmed that the virus had been detected in an environmental sample collected from Bannu. A total of 34 samples across the country have shown the virus this year.
Now wiped out from most of the world, the polio virus is now only endemic in Pakistan and Afghanistan.
