The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has canceled the opening ceremony of the ICC ODI World Cup, making it the first edition of the tournament to not have an official opening ceremony, Zee News reported.
Initially, the opening ceremony was planned at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on October 5 before the opening game between defending champions England New Zealand. However, it has been called off without stating any reason.
It is pertinent to mention that no official statement has been released by either BCCI or the International Cricket Council regarding the cancellation of the ceremony, while the Captains’ Day event remains scheduled.
The BCCI is considering to organise a function in Ahmedabad ahead of the blockbuster clash between India and Pakistan. A highlight of the tournament is scheduled for October 14 at the Ahmedabad venue.
Celebrated Bollywood personalities including Ranveer Singh, Arijit Singh, Tamannaah Bhatia, Shreyas Ghoshal, and Asha Bhosle were scheduled to perform in the ceremony while fireworks and a laser display were also planned to herald the commencement of the World Cup in India.
