An accountability court in Lahore issued on Tuesday non-bailable arrest warrants for Moonis Elahi, the son of incarcerated PTI President Pervaiz Elahi, in a case pertaining to alleged mega corruption in the development schemes.
Judge Naseem Ahmed Virk issued the orders while hearing the petition of the National Accountability Bureau. The court has asked the anti-graft body to produce the accused before it by October 5. Moonis is accused of billions of rupees of corruption in the uplift schemes.
The NAB lawyer informed the court that the national graft-buster had issued warrants for Moonis on August 11, but the accused had allegedly gone into hiding after they tried to arrest him.
The father of Moonis, Pervaiz, has been rearrested several times despite the Lahore High Court’s order to not arrest him. The PTI has claimed that the party president was being arrested for staying loyal to the party and refusing to “address a press conference” unlike others who upon their release parted ways with the Imran Khan-led party in a media talk.
In April this year, the Anti-Corruption Establishment booked former chief minister Pervaiz, Moonis, and former principal secretary to the chief minister Muhammad Khan Bhatti on charges of taking bribes.
In a statement, the ACE alleged the suspects received a sum of Rs120 million as a bribe in payment of Rs2.9 billion to a foreign company. The anti-graft agency also accused the former chief minister of misusing his authority.
Last month, Moonis was booked for attempted murder in Gujrat.
