Chief Selector Inzimam ul Haq revealed Pakistan’s 18-member squad for the World Cup on Friday.
“We have tried to select the best team for the tournament,” Haq said.
The squad includes Babar Azam (c), Shadab Khan (vc), Abdullah Shafique, Fakhar Zaman, Haris Rauf, Hassan Ali, Iftikhar Ahmad, Imam ul Haq, Muhammad Nawaz, Muhammad Rizwan (wk), Muhammad Waseem Junior, Saud Shakeel, Salman Agha, Shaheen Shah Afridi and Usama Mir.
The three travelling reserve players for the World Cup included Muhammad Haris, Abrar Ahmad, and Zaman Khan.
As expected, Naseem Shah was not included in the squad due to a shoulder injury that he sustained during the recently concluded Asia Cup.
The fast bowler was seen walking off in the 46th over during Pakistan’s game against India in the Super Four round at the Asia Cup on the reserve day and was ruled out of the tournament.
Shah shared the development in a post on X, saying he will not be part of team that will be representing Pakistan in the upcoming World Cup in India.
It is pertinent to mention that former cricketer Mohammad Hafeez decided to leave the Pakistan cricket technical committee a day earlier.
“I served as honorary member. I would like to thank Zaka Ashraf sb for giving me this opportunity,” he said in a post on X.
