A 38-year-old Indian man died by suicide after facing accusations of rape and being threatened by the family of a girl with whom he was in a relationship.
Manish alias Raj Yadav, a resident of Kalamna, an area in Maharashtra, was in a relationship with a 19-year-old girl of his locality.
He jumped into the Kanhan River on Sunday and livestreamed his act on Facebook.
In the live video, he said that the girl’s family was threatening him that they will file a fabricated rape case against him if he did not pay them Rs500,000.
He claimed that the family had also blackmailed another man who was a resident of Uttar Pradesh.
Manish said he was ending his life because the rape charges were unbearable for him.
The incident initially surfaced on September 6, when the girl went missing from her home and her family alleged Manish was responsible for it.
In a bid to probe the matter, Kalamna police have detained the girl and a family member to investigate the issue.
