Unidentified men killed a religious leader, Maulana Ziaur Rehman, in Karachi’s Gulistan-e-Johar on Wednesday, the police said.
Maulana Zia ur Rehman was a leader at the Jamia Abubakar Al-Islamia. According to the police, he was going for a walk to Johar when he was shot.
They added that nothing was taken from the victim.
The ASP said that at least 11 shells of bullets were found at the site of the incident.
Additional IG Karachi Khadim Hussain Rind took notice of the incident and ordered an investigation. He ordered the DIG East to complete the investigatin quickly and apprehend those responsible as quick as possible.
Police officials said that the attack was an act of terror aimed at disturbing law and order on the eve of Rabi ul Awal. The officials also added that initial investigations had shown evidence of the involvement of Indian intelligence agencies in the killing.
