A young Pakistani doctor who was shot and wounded by her father for wanting to live in a hostel died in Rawalpindi on Wednesday.
Dr Sidra Niazi was from Punjab’s Mianwali town. She wanted to live at a hostel to pursue higher education against the wishes of her father, who wanted her to get married.
On August 20, Dr Niazi’s father shot and wounded her after a heated exchange. She was rushed to a hospital in Rawalpindi, nearly 220km away.
Sidra Niazi remained in the intensive care unit for nine days and breathed her last on Wednesday.
The police registered a case against her father on a complaint from Dr Sidra’s brother. However, the man has not been arrested so far.
Family sources said Dr Sidra Niazi will be laid to rest in Mianwali after funeral prayers.
