The Khairpur police took into custody on Sunday the five suspects after their brief release on personal surety bonds. They were arrested in a case relating to the death of a 10-year-old girl, Fatima Fariro.
Those arrested include Ranipur SHO Amir Chaang, head clerk, peon Imtiaz, MS of Ranipur Hospital Dr Abdul Fattah Memon, and Dr Hasan Ali. They were released earlier in the day after they appeared before the DIG Sukkur’s investigation team where they were “proven innocent”.
The police have so far not arrested other suspects, including Hina Shah and her father Fayyaz Shah.
Fatima, 10, was found dead on August 13 in Asad Shah’s mansion in the Ranipur taluka of Khairpur district. Initial reports claimed she was killed and that marks of torture were found on her body.
She worked as a maid in Shah’s house and was buried without a post-mortem examination. Her body was later exhumed for a post-mortem examination where police said that she was raped before she died.
The prime suspect Asad Shah was booked in a first information report, invoking sections 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) and 302 (punishment of qatl-i-amd) of the Pakistan Penal Code.
Ranipur’s SHO Amir Chaang was suspended and taken into custody while the doctor who allegedly made a fake report about Fatima’s death was also arrested.
