The PML-N on Friday proposed the simultaneous preparation of electoral rolls and constituency delimitation in order to ensure the early holding of general elections.
A delegation of the PML-N held a consultative meeting with the Chief Election Commission of Pakistan Sikandar Sultan Raja in which the party leaders forwarded proposals to the ECP for the upcoming general elections.
During the meeting, the PML-N leaders told the ECP chairman that all the political parties had agreed that the general elections 2023 would be held on the basis of the new census.
The delegation said that the Council of Common Interests unanimously approved the results of the census 2023, while all the political parties had agreed that the elections would be held on the basis of the new census.
The ECP invited Imran Khan and other political parties to appear before the body to decide on a roadmap for the upcoming elections in the country.
Khan had been asked to participate in the meeting in person or through representatives on August 24.
The PML-N leaders were of the view that the schedule of constituencies delimitation issued by the ECP is in accordance with the constitution and law. The process of renewal of electoral rolls should also be done along with delimitation to ensure timely elections, they stated.
The delegation urged for another round of consultation on the code of conduct. They proposed banning hate speech while suggesting the permission of only posters and stickers during the campaign to reduce the expenses of the candidates.
The ECP chief assured that the electoral body will complete the delimitation process and renewal of electoral rolls as soon as possible. He vowed to finalise the code of conduct after the ECP holds consultation with political parties as per the law.
Raja assured that the polls will be transparent and impartial while all political parties will be provided with equal opportunities and strict legal action will be ensured for violation of the code of conduct.
