Karachi doctor kills daughter, boyfriend as he sprays their car with bullets

A doctor in Karachi has killed his daughter and her alleged boyfriend in what the police have described as an incident of ‘honour killing’.

Dr Rafique Shaikh fired multiple shots at an SUV in the Bakhar Goth of near Abul Hassan Isphani Road on Thursday night as the young couple sat in the driver and passenger seats, the police said.

Rafique has confessed to his crime and claimed that he had to use his weapon when the young man tried to shoot him during a heated exchange, according to the police.

The dead were identified as Laraib, 17, and Hassan Waqar, a Gulshan Iqbal resident.

Bakhar Goth is an old settlement now part of Gulshan-e-Iqbal and lies next to Chapel Garden on the motorway M-9.

They arrested Dr Rafique Sheikh and his son Abdullah from their home which is nearby.

Police said Hassan was dropping Laraib at her home.

Larib and Hasasn were chatting and sitting in the vehicle when they were attacked, said the police. After shooting them dead, Dr Rafique and his son took Larib’s body to their home and Ahsan was left in the vehicle.

The police have also recovered the weapon used in the murder. They found two pistols from the site but added that after verifying the licences they would ascertain whether Hassan also had a gun or not.

At least five bullet shells were found at the site of the murder. TV footage showed holes in the windscreen of the SUV that lay in the middle of a narrow street.

Earlier this month, Sindh MPA Muhammad Aslam Abro’s brother and nephew were killed after unidentified assailants opened fire on their vehicle in Karachi’s Defence Housing Authority.

This is a developing story and will be updated accordingly.
