Chechen president’s son beats man accused of desecrating Quran

Adam Kadyrov, the 15-year-old son of Chechen Rrepublic President Ramzan Kadyrov, has been accused of beating up a man being held for allegedly desecrating the Holy Quran.

Nikita Zhuravel, 19, was arrested and accused of desecrating the Holy Quran in the Russian city of Volgograd. He is charged with ‘insulting religious feelings of believers’.

However, Mansur Soltaev, human rights ombudsman in Chechnya, has now claimed that he received a complaint of torture from the arrested teen.

Zhuravel has told the ombudsman that he was recently visited by the Chechen president after which his son beat him on the arms and legs.

“Nobody can be exposed torture and beatings in the Chechen Republic. A specific check will be carried out,” the ombudsman said.

Zhuravel was arrested in May after videos of Quran being desecrated went viral on social media. Even though arrested in Volgograd, his case was shifted to Chechnya on popular demand.

Ramzan Kadyrov is considered a close ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
