Akshay Kumar becomes Indian again

Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar has finally ended the criticism on his Candian citizenship, by becoming an Indian citizen.

The actor took to social media on Tuesday to announce that he had received Indian citizenship, with a photo of his documents. He made the announcement on India’s independence day.

“Dil aur citizenship, dono Hindustani,” he wrote in the caption.

Kumar had faced a lot of criticism over how he continued to work in India while being a Canadian national.

He had initially applied for Canadian citizenship after 15 of his films tanked at the box office. Out of options, he took the advice of a friend and applied for a Canadian passport which was soon awarded to him.

However, soon after the development, his career began to rise again and he continued to wrk as an actor.

As criticism grew, he announced that he would give up his Candian citizenship. He applied for Indian citizenship but the process was delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic. He has finally received the documents, making him Indian again.

He also told the Hindustan Times that the Canadian authorities have issued him a letter about the renunciation of his citizenship.

Kumar has dabbled in a vareity of movie genres including action and comedy and his movie ‘OMG 2’ is currently doing welll at the box office.

The papers in the photo show his real name to be Akshay Hariom Bhatia.
