Take exactly 3,967 steps daily for a longer life, study says

A study has shown that the key to a longer life is exactly 3,967 steps per day as it greatly minimises the risk of dying from all causes, The Guardian reported.

Additionally, as few as 2,337 steps a day start to lessen the risk of dying from cardiovascular diseases, according to a study published in the European Journal of Preventive Cardiology.

The study found that the regime applied to both men and women, irrespective of age, and irrespective of whether a person lives in a temperate, sub-tropical or sub-polar region of the world.

Additionally, the analysis indicates that as few as 4,000 steps a day are essential to greatly reduce deaths from any cause and even fewer to reduce deaths from cardiovascular disease.

And scientists noted that they have yet to identify an upper limit to the benefits of walking; even at 20,000 steps per day, the health benefits only continued to increase.

There is strong evidence that an inactive and lazy daily routine may contribute to an increase in cardiovascular disease and a short span of life.

Studies have also shown disparities between the health conditions of gender and people in high-income and lower-income countries.

Insufficient physical activity affects more than a quarter of the world’s population.

On a gender basis, 32% of women compared with 23% of men do not undertake a sufficient amount of physical activity.

Likewise, 37% of people in higher-income countries are also physically inactive compared to those in low-income countries where the figure is 16%.

According to World Health Organization data, insufficient physical activity is the fourth most frequent cause of death in the world, with 3.2 million deaths a year related to physical inactivity.

With the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, physical activity further reduced as people used to remain at home all the time and the physical activity levels have not recovered two years on from it.
