The protesters from the Mehsud tribe ended the 4-hour blockade of Super Highway after their negotiations with the police ended successfully on Friday.
Several major arteries of Karachi were choked after enraged protesters blocked the Karachi Super Highway following the alleged abduction of Hikmatullah Mehsud by the dacoits of the riverine area of Sindh.
A member of the Mehsud tribe jirga said that an ultimatum of 24 hours has been given to the police to recover Mehsud, an advocate by profession.
He went on to add that a 10-member committee will hold a meeting with the IG of Sindh on the development regarding the recovery of the abducted lawyer.
A large contingent of police was deployed at the site of the protest where the authorities had to divert all stuck-up vehicles coming from Hyderabad towards Madras Chowk through Safoora and Punjab Bus Stop.
During the protest, both tracks of the highway remained blocked while the traffic on the Shahrah-e-Faisal and Shahrah-e-Pakistan was also choked. The commuters were stuck for hours due to jam-packed roads.
