A petition was filed in the Islamabad High Court on Monday to move PTI chief Imran Khan from Attock jail to Adiala jail. The former prime minister was sentenced to three-year in prison after he was proven guilty of “corrupt practices” in the Toshakhana case.
“We have made different requests to the court. Firstly, we have asked that Khan Sb should be given A Class in jail which is his legal right,” lawyer Naeem Haider Panjutha told reporters outside the court. “Secondly, we have called for accepting our request to give access to lawyers.”
Panjuta later met with Imran Khan for one hour and 45 minutes inside Attock jail. He had to travel in a prison van to arrive at the inner gate of the jail.
PTI chief Imran Khan was arrested from his Lahore residence on August 5 after a district and sessions court in Islamabad handed down the jail sentence to him in the state gifts case. He was slapped with a five-year disqualification.
His lawyer had raised concern for his confinement at Attock Jail, established 100 years ago on the outskirts of historical Attock city, around 60 kilometres (40 miles) west of the capital, Islamabad.
Panjutha went on to add that lawyers’ meetings were necessary for signing different documents. The former ruling party has provided a list to the court of persons who should be allowed to meet the former premier.
The list includes his doctor Faisal Sultan, family members, and senior party leaders.
