Tech experts have advised iPhone 8 and iPhone X users to sell or trade in their devices before September as these devices will not support the upcoming operating system, Daily Mail reported.
Apple’s new iOS 17 is all set to hit the market which will bring several new features to the iPhone - but the update will cut some models’ values by 50%.
Released in 2017, both iPhone X and iPhone 8’s trade-in value in mint condition are around $190 and $90 respectively. Similarly, the trade-in value for a mint condition iPhone 8 Plus is $152.
The value of iPhone 7 was down to $80 from $138 in June 2022 when iOS 16 was introduced that year, while the iPhone 6S Plus’s value came down to $47 from $94.
iPhone X cost $999 in 2017 and was the company’s ten-year anniversary smartphone. The smartphone was the first to ditch Touch ID for Facial ID, marking a new era of iPhones.
The phone came with features which were never before seen in Apple phones such as glass front and back, a band around the edge made from surgical-grade stainless steel, and an edgeless display.
The iPhone X also includes the first Apple OLED display called the ‘super retina display’ that, on the diagonal, is 5.8 inches.
While the iPhone X outshined the flagship devices, the iPhone 8 remianed a fan favorite at the time.
Reportedly, Apple sold 86.3 million iPhone 8 and 8 Plus, making them one of the best-selling smartphones ever.
However, the pair was discontinued in February 2020 after the tech giant released the iPhone SE that year, an upgraded iPhone.
After remaining fan-favourite for several years, it seems the end of the line has come for both the iPhone X and iPhone 8.
A report from SellCell states that phones’ owners and their data are more at risk of attack by people with malicious intent, like hackers.
