The Punjab Film Censor Board decided on Tuesday Hollywood film Barbie will be released with minor cuts..
“The censor board cleared the film Barbie for release,” Interim information minister of Punjab Amir Mir said in a statement. “The film will be released after the removal of objectional content.”
The film was presented infront of a full board for review, where it was decided that some portions wer objectionable.
Warner Bros’ blockbuster Barbie earned an estimated $93 million in North American theaters this weekend as it continued “rolling down a hill of cash,” industry watcher Exhibitor Relations reported Sunday.
With Margot Robbie as “Barbie” and Ryan Gosling as boyfriend “Ken,” according to AFP the Greta Gerwig film has now generated $351.4 million in North American ticket sales, along with $423 million abroad, likely setting it on track to be the next billion-dollar flick.
The reevaluation process would involve all 12 members of the censor board, including Chairman Touqeer Nasir.
Barbie faced a ban in Punjab due to the presence of “objectionable content”, according to media reports. The reevaluation process would involve the removal of the content which the board considers objectionable.
Last week, Mir told BBC Urdu that the movie was “not banned” in the province.
When asked if the same movie was being released in other provinces, he said that if other provinces don’t mind playing objectionable content, they can release it, but Punjab won’t release it.
