Teenage Pakistani climber suffers frostbite during K2 expedition

A Pakistani mountaineer, Fareed Hussain, suffered frostbite and other injury during the K2 expedition on Monday. He suffered the injury near camp 4, at 8,200 above sea level.

“I am thankful to fellow climbers for timely rescue,” the 18-year-old climber told Aaj News via phone. “But my hand will be damaged if I am not rushed to the hospital immediately.”

It may take six days to reach Skardu by trekking, he said and added: “I request the force commander to rescue me by helicopter.”

The Special Communication Organisation, locally known as SCOM run by Pakistan Army, has given internet facilities to the K2 Base Camp. It is an additional cellular service in Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan.

They provide seasonal service till the K2 Base Camp. People can make videos and get Facebook live.

In this way, Aaj News contacted Fareed. Our correspondent Qasim Butt said that if he could have summited the mountain he could have been the youngest climber of Pakistan to summit the peak and beat the record held by Shehroze Kashif.
