Man who gouged out daughter’s eyes killed in police custody

A Burewala man accused of beating up his wife and children and blinded a daughter was allegedly killed in police custody on Sunday.

Police had managed to take the man into custody after a 15-hour operation on Tuesday.

A statement by the police said that the suspect was being escorted to recover some weapons tried to snatch a policeman’s weapons on the way. This led to a scuffle betwen the man and the police and the gun went off.

The suspect was injured by a bullet and taken to the District Headquarter Hospital where he succumbed to his wounds.

The man had been arrested after reports emerged that he had kept his wife and children hostage for over three months. He had beaten the woman and children regularly and had even stabbed and blinded a daughter.

During the operation the suspect had fired on the police. Later reports had said he was an ice addict.

The children had been shifted to a hospital where they continue to be treated.
