US CENTCOM chief vows support for Pakistan Army after meeting Gen Munir

US Central Command General Michael ‘Erik’ Kurilla discussed ways to strengthen military partnership with Pakistan in his recent visit, a CENTCOM press release said on Wednesday.

The statement added that the visit was aimed at gaining a ‘better understanding’ of the security situation.

The statement also said that General Kurilla held Army Chief General Asim Munir and other senior leaders regarding multiple topics.

“Discussions focused on strengthening the military-to-military relations between the Pakistani Armed Forces and USCENTCOM with particular focus on counter terrorism, military trauma combat casualty care, security cooperation, disaster relief, and humanitarian assistance opportunities,” the statement said.

The statement added that the CENTCOM commander visited the National Counter Terrorism Center as well as the Pakistani Army Sniper School. He was also given a live fire demonstration.

“Every time I visit the Pakistan military I am impressed with the professionalism, commitment, and competence of everyone I meet,” General Kurilla said.

“CENTCOM views the US-Pakistan relationship on its own merits, and I am committed to strengthening this important partnership that dates back over 75 years.”
