As confusion continued over Anju and Nasrullah’s marriage, reports emerged the the woman’s father had disowned her.
“She is dead to us. I have nothing to do with her,” Indian media quoted her father as saying.
The father also said that he had no updates about her and that they had not had any contact since the past one year.
“How could I have a bond with a woman who not only left her husband but also her children?” he was reported as saying.
Earlier reports have also quoted him as saying that Anju was ‘mentally disturbed’. He had also said that her decision to go to Pakistan was ‘wrong’.
Anju had crossed into Pakistan through the Wagah border on perfectly legal documents and made her way to Upper Dir in the country’s north west to meet Nasrullah, a man she had known through Facebook for four years.
Her husband had later said that she had told him she was going to Jaipur. He also expressed hope she would return home soon.
Reports had emerged on Tuesday that Anju had converted to Islam, changed her name to Fatima and married Nasrullah.
However, Anju later clarified that the marriage had not taken place and she would go back to India when her visa expired.
