A dispute over the choice of marriage between two tribes in Sukkur’s Pano Aqil exacerbated the situation as one of the sides opted for firing and abduction.
On Friday, some videos went viral on social media in which many armed men were seen firing and bravely passing in front of the Sangi Police Station.
There were claims that dacoits from the riverine area, locally known as the Katcha area, raided a village, looted the area, and killed two men. There were reports that they kidnapped two women and a girl.
Earlier, a commentator, Fayyaz khan on Twitter said that more than a hundred armed robbers attacked the entire village near Sangi police station in Sindh.
“They looted the entire village and killed two people by firing on resistance and abducted a woman and a child and took them with them,” he added.
Leader of Opposition in Sindh Assembly Haleem Adil Sheikh reacted to the incident. In a tweet, he shared two videos and wrote: “This is not Sindh’s Katcha but Pakka [strong area]. This is called dacoits rule and law of the jungle.”
He also supported the claims of murder and kidnapping and wondered who was answerable.
“The Sindh government and Sindh police have failed in taking action against dacoits, terrorists, and murderers as criminals have got political support,” Adil said.
Adil, who belongs to the PTI, alleged that high-ups of police were unable to take action against the culprits due to politically motivated postings.
Upon checking, it was found that the matter was related to a marriage dispute between two clans. Kalhoro clan and Mehr clan clashed over the aforementioned dispute on Friday. At least two people were killed and the Mehr clan had abducted two women and a girl of the rival tribe.
Sources told Aaj News that policemen shut the windows and doors of the station when more than 100 armed men on motorcycles passed in front of the station.
The senior police officers “came to their senses” when members of the Kalhoro community staged a sit-in at the Pano Aqil National Highway with bodies and traffic was suspended for nine hours.
Later, police conducted an operation in Raza Goth and recovered the girl and two women.
The Sukkur SSP has suspended the entire police station staff including SHO Sangi Sanaullah, but no action has been taken against the accused.
