Kashmiris observe Youm-e-Ilhaq-e-Pakistan

The people of Kashmir are observing Youm-e-Ilhaq-e Pakistan on Wednesday, throughout the world.

On this day in 1947, an emergency meeting of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Conference was called where Khawaja Ghulamuddin Wani and Abdul Raheem Wani presented a resolution for Kashmir to join Pakistan.

The meeting was held at the residence of Sardar Ibrahim and was chaired by Chaudhry Hameedullah Khan. It was attended by 59 major Kashmiri leaders who all voted in favour of the resolution.

The resolution, passed a few months before partition, called for Kashmir to become part of Pakistan on religious, cultural and geographic basis. It led to to the Poonch uprising and later to the freedom of Azad Kashmir.

The people of Kashmir have been resisting a military occupation for 75 years. Facing over a million Indian army and paramilitary officials, half a million Kashmiri people have laid down their lives for the cause of freedom.

Among the numerous crimes committed by the Indian forces, 23,000 Kashmiri women have been widowed by violence from the army while 11,000 have been raped.

Kashmir is also one of the least free places on the planet in terms of internet outages.
