Pakistan street child football team beat UN team ahead of Norway Cup

Pakistan street child football team beat the United Nations team by 5-0 in an exhibition match at the Jinnah Stadium of the Pakistan Sports Complex Islamabad on Monday.

The team is currently in a final training camp ahead of their participation in this year’s Norway Cup. The team will leave for the Scandinavian country on July 27 where 30 teams from all over the world will compete in the event.

The representatives of the UN in Pakistan motivated the street child team as they geared up to participate in one of the world’s biggest youth football leagues the Norway Cup starting from July 30.

The performance of these children in the past has been excellent, said World Food Programme in Pakistan Country Director Chris Kaye, who is also acting head of the UN in Pakistan.

“We are here to support these talented street kids. We are here to enjoy and play good football with these talented teenagers,” he added.

Pakistan street child players who are participating in the event also expressed their determination to show Pakistan’s “positive face” to the world through sports.

It is pertinent to mention that the street child football team won the second position in Norway in 2015 and remained the third in 2016.
