Pervez Khattak launches new party with 57 former PTI members

Former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Pervez Khattak announced the formation of a new political party on Monday with the support of 57 assembly members formerly belonging to the PTI.

Khattak announced the formation in Peshawar on Friday. However, the media was not allowed into the premises where the party members had gathered.

Although not officially announced, sources said the party will be called PTI-Parliamentarians.

Aaj News reported that former Chief Minister Mahmood Khan and former Governor Shah Farman will also be part of the new party.

Reports had said that Khattak has been active in recent days and has been meeting key figures from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa including former PTI members who had been elected to aseemblies.

Both of Khattak’s sons are still part of the PTI and say that they will wait follow their father’s decision regarding their political future.

On Sunday, Khattak had told reporters via phone that he had parted ways with the PTI and even if plans to form his own party did not come to fruition, he would not go back to his old party.

Khattak was terminated from PTI membership after failing to answer a notice about allegedly trying to break away PTI members in KP.

As a member of the PTI, Khattak served as the chief minister of Khuber Pakhtunkhwa, as well as the party’s provincial president. He also served as the defence minister.
