The National Hockey Stadium in the Nishtar Sports Complex was flooded after Lahore received heavy downpour on Wednesday.
The complex situated at Hafeez Kardar Road, was flooded with rainwater as torrential rain in Lahore broke 30-year records. The synthetic turf installed at a cost of around Rs150 million is feared to be damaged by the water.
Gaddafi Stadium Lahore and Punjab Stadium were also flooded with rainwater.
The record-breaking rain has disrupted daily life in Lahore besides submerging parts of the city.
The rainwater also entered houses in several areas including Tajpura and Lahore Development Authority, while the provincial authorities failed to take action despite continuous complaints by the residents.
The Jail Road and surrounding areas were flooded after torrential rain. Several vehicles were also stuck on the roads and drowned in the water, as major roads and underpasses were flooded.
The heavy rainfall also led to atleast seven deaths while injuring several.
The rains, which began as light downpour in the morning, turned into heavy downpours leading to urban flooding in many areas.
Caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi tweeted that 272 millimeter of rain had been recorded in just nine hours.
He said that the provincial authorities are working to provide relief to the masses and they will see some betterment in the next few hours.
However, the Water and Sewerage Authority’s officials were not seen on the field in the low lying areas of the city, the most affected by the record-breaking rain, reported Ateeq Malik of Aaj News.
