Acting President Sadiq Sanjrani issued an order on Tuesday morning increasing the salaries of judges of the Supreme Court, including the chief justice of Pakistan.
The basic salary of the chief justice of Pakistan has been increased by almost 20% to Rs1,229,189.
The basic salary of regular judges has also been increased by 20% to Rs1,161,163.
According to details recently submitted in the Public Accounts Committee, the chief justice of Pakistan was drawing a gross salary of Rs1,527,399 per month before the increase. The details in the PAC had also revealed that each judge in the country’s top court was drawing a salary of Rs1,470,711 before the latest increase.
The order also adds that the new salaries shall deemed to have taken effect from July 1.
The order was issued by Sadiq Sanjrani as acting president since President Arif Alvi is out of the country for Hajj.
“The salary of judges of the Supreme Court Order, 2020 is hereby repealed,” the presidential order reads.
