Police arrested two Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leaders from Swat on Wednesday for alleged involvement in the May 9 protests after Imran Khan’s arrest.
The arrested leaders include former Swat mayor Shahid Ali Khan and former provincial minister Dr. Amjad. Both were arrested under Maintainance of Public Order and had been wanted by police for sometime.
Dr. Amjad is accused of inciting PTI workers to protest after Imran Khan was arrested. He allegedly assembled party workers for a protest at Chakdara Motorway. The Chakdara Interchange was also set to fire during this protest.
The case against Amjad involves clauses of terrorism and mutiny.
Both PTI leaders have been shifted to an unknown location after arrest.
Authorities have cracked down on PTI leaders and workers in the wake of the May 9 protests which broke out across the country when Imran Khan was arrested from the Islamabad High Court.
The protests turned violent in many places including Peshawar and Lahore. Public builidngs and even military residences were attacked leading to arrests of thousands of PTI workers.
