IMF sends draft, agreement could come soon: reports

A breakthrough between Pakistan and the International Monetary Fund could finally be on the cards, after reports said that a draft of the Staff Level Agreement was shared on Tuesday.

AAJ News reported that talks between Pakistan and th money lender have entered the final stages and deadlocks have been cleared on most points.

A final round of negotiations is expected to take place on Tuesday night, after which the final agreement could be made. Finance Minister Ishaq Dar is expected to particpate in the talks on Pakistan’s behalf himself.

Although, multiple changes have been made to the original draft already, the government has further agreed that the scheme of allowing people to bring upto $100,000 per year from abroad will not be introduced.

On the other hand, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also contacted the Fund’s managing director on Tuesday via phone.

Reports said Shehbaz called Kristalina Georgieva spoke early on Tuesday and briefed on how the government had complied to IMF conditions.

Sources said Georgieva the Fund also wanted an improvement in the state of the Pakistan’s economy.
