The Karachi police have claimed to have detained the husband of deceased Ayesha, whose body was left at a hospital on Saturday, from Karachi’s Golistan-e-Johar.
“Adil, the husband of deceased Ayesha, has been detained during a police operation in Gulistan-e-Johar,” SSP Karachi South Asad Raza said in a statement on Sunday. “He [Adil] is unemployed and a drug addict. He was missing for days.”
A car-borne man and woman brought Ayesha to Karachi’s Jinnah Hospital on June 24 morning, but they fled after doctors told them that she was dead. She was suspected to have died of drug abuse, however, the post-mortem examination report is still awaited.
Ayesha was a TikToker from Punjab’s Sheikhupura.
The father of the deceased has been contacted by the Karachi police, the Karachi South SSP said and added that he was expected to arrive in Karachi by Sunday night or tomorrow (Monday).
SSP Raza said that an FIR has not been registered yet. The legal process would be taken forward according to the statement of the deceased’s father, he added.
The police have rejected the statement of Nusrat Sobia, mother-in-law of Ayesha, and refused to hand over the body to Nusrat.
“The body will be handed over to the deceased’s father. We are trying to register an FIR with the father as the plaintiff. If he refuses, the FIR will be registered with the government as the plaintiff,” Raza said.
The police have made her part of the investigation and recorded her statement, he stated.
In her statement to the police, Nusrat said that her son Adil married Ayesha two years ago. She claimed that Adil was a taxi driver and a drug addict. “Ayesha was living with her in Gulistan-e-Johar and was working at a beauty parlour,” she added.
Nusrat said that most of the days the deceased’s husband was not at home. Ayesha’s mother-in-law maintained that she was at her paternal home in Punjab for the last week and wanted no legal action regarding her daughter-in-law’s death.
The police were searching for the male and female, who brought the deceased to the hospital, SSP Raza said and vowed to arrest them. The man was identified as Jibran and the girl was identified as Sehrish.
According to the initial investigation, the car in which the duo arrived that arrived at the hospital was rented.
The Karachi police have claimed to have obtained the agreement for the rented vehicle. The document shows that the car was rented for one month from a rent-a-car business situated at the Badr Commercial of DHA, Karachi.
The car was rented by Ali, a resident of Islamabad, who paid Rs70,000 in advance, SSP Raza said and claimed that the owner of the car and the renter have been arrested by the police.
The police have also obtained Ayesha’s family details. Her father and two brothers were in Gujarat and Okara, while her mother passed away.
