Veteran politician Ghulam Sarwar announced on Thursday that he would part ways with the PTI over the May 9 riots.
Sarwar made the announcement in a video released to the media on Thursday, two days after he was arrested from Islamabad by police.
In the video, the former minsiter said his family had been associated with politics for 50 years and he held the army in high esteem. He said that the army had made numerous sacrificaes for Pakistan and attacking its installations and the monuments made for martyrs was akin to an attack on the country.
He then said that as a ‘patriotic Pakistani’ he demanded that the perpetrators of May 9 should be punished as per the law.
He also said that the condemned the efforts to create a confirmation with the army in Pakistan. He added that he had opposed the policy of confrontation within the party at every forum as well.
Sarwar then said he would part ways with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf. He had previoulsy been elected to the National Assembly on a PTI ticket from Rawalpindi and had served as the minsiter for aviation.
