Pervaiz Elahi re-arrested after release

Former Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi was presented in an accountability court after being taken into custody by the Federal Investigation Agency immediately after his release from jail on Wednesday.

Elahi’s release had been ordered by the court on Tuesday. However, upon release from Camp Jail on Wednesday, FIA officials were waiting to arrest him with an armoured vehicle.

He was then presented in Judicial Magistrate Ghulam Murtaza Virk’s court in a money laundering case filed by the FIA a day ago.

FIA is seeking to get a 14-day remand for Elahi, and told the court that there is ‘solid’ evidence against him.

Meanwhile, Elahi has also approached the Lahore High Court for protective bail and also asked the court to provide him a list of cases filed agaisnt him.

The petition argues that Elahi is a former chief minister of the province and the cases being made against him are political in nature. FIA has been made a party in the case.
