The management committee of national cricket board stands dissolved after the completion of its tenure, which was extended till June 20, said the inter-provincial coordination ministry.
“On completion of the tenure, the management committee of PCB stands dissolved, ceases to operate,” said a notification issued by the ministry on Tuesday.
The committee had the task to hold elections within four months after PM Shehbaz formed it under Najam Sethi to run PCB affairs. But the elections were not held amid court cases that led to the extension of the committee’s tenure till June 20.
The affairs of PCB are handed over to the election commissioner appointed by the PCB’s Patron-in-Chief, the prime minister vide the ministry’s notification of February 24, 2023.
Earlier in the day, the PM Office nominated former PCB chief Zaka Ashraf as a member of the cricketing body’s board of governors. The development came after Sethi withdrew himself from the election, citing that he does not want to be a “bone of contention between Asif Zardari and Shehbaz Sharif”.
Zaka has the support of the Pakistan Peoples Party and is considered to be the favourite for the top slot.
The patron is the competent authority to appoint two members of the Board of Governors of PCB and traditionally, the prime minister’s nominee has won the elections.
Ashraf had previously served as Chairman of the board between 2011 and 2014. He was replaced by Najam Sethi.
