South Waziristan’s Member National Assembly Ali Wazir was arrested on Monday.
Initial reports said that the arrest was made near the Saplagh checkpost. However, Ali Wazir’s driver Badshah Pashteen said that the arrest had been made at the Damdail police check post.
Pashteen also said that Ali Wazir was going from Miranshah to Razmak when the arrest was made. The MNA has been shifted back to Razmak.
The arrest was confirmed by Mohsin Dawar on the floor of the National Assembly on Monday afternoon as well.
“These days, whenever I speak, I speak about someone’s arrest,” Dawar said.
“This morning, Ali Wazir was arrested from North Waziristan, no reason has been given yet,” he added.
He said that as per initial information, the arrest had been made by the Federal Investigation Agency. He also said that a member of the assembly cannot be arrested while the house is in session.
“Mr Speaker, please get some information about this. Till now this is an abduction,” he said.
He had been arrested in December 2020 by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police and handed over to the Sindh Police, who sought his custody for a sedition case filed against Wazir in Sohrab Goth, Karachi.
Wazir had later been implicated in three different cases and kept in Karachi jail. He was finally released in February this year after more than two years in prison.
