A joint operation by rangers and police in Karachi led to the arrest of four people from the benned outfit Hizbul Ahrar on Thursday.
The operation was carried out in Manghopir and led to the arrests of men identified as Qari Alamgir, Muhammad Zahid, Kashif and Yousaf.
The men were allegedly involved in an extortion ring sent information about Karachi’s wealthy businessmen including mobile phone numbers as well as videos of their place of business, residences and vehicles.
The information and videos was allegedly forwarded to their commander Muhammad Shoaib aka Jan Nisar who is currently in Afghanistan.
The Hizbul Ahrar is a splinter group of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan and has been involved in multiple acts of terrorism in the country. The group was benned under the anti-terrorism act in 2019. Reports had claimed in 2020 that the TTP had brough the group back into its fold.
