Authorities and law enforcement personnel have dug up trenches on the Grand Trunk Road near Sarai Alamgir to stop the progress of Tehreek-e-Labbaik’s long march.
Containers have also been placed on the GT Road including on the bridge over Jhelum river, effectively closing the road for all types of traffic.
With the blockade in place, access to Islamabad from GT Road has been made impossible. A large continent of police is in place to counter the march as well
However, the road blockage has led to difficulty for the citizens who are unable to travel. Reports said several ambulances have also been stuck int he traffic cues. Transporters have also appealed to the government to reopen the highway.
The TLP is making its way down the road towards Islamabad on a ‘Pakistan Bachao March’ and reached Kharian on Wednesday.
On Monday, sources had claimed that the federal government was planning to engage the TLP to call of their march. A delegation led by Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah would meet the TLP’s team and ‘fair demands’ would be listened to, the sources said.
