PPP’s Kashif Shoro and Muhammad Saghir Qureshi on Wednesday were elected unopposed as mayor and deputy mayor of Hyderabad, respectively. In several other major Sindh cities, including Shaheed Benazirabad (Nawabshah) and Sukkur, the party saw its mayor and deputy mayor candidates return successfully in a similar manner.
Shoro in a tweet said, “Notified as unopposed Mayor Hyderabad, highly indebted to party leadership. I will try my best to serve the people in every corner of Hyderabad”.
The PPP’s candidates for mayor and deputy mayor of Sukkur Municipal Corporation and all three town chairmen and vice chairman also got elected unopposed.
The PPP had nominated Arsalan Islam Sheikh for Sukkur’s mayor seat, while Dr Arshad Mughal was picked as the candidate of deputy mayor.
It is pertinent to mention that the election for Karachi’s top seats in Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) is scheduled for June 15.
Barrister Murtaza Wahab and Salman Murad are the PPP’s candidates for the slot of the mayor and deputy mayor of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation.
Jamaat-e-Islami’s Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman is also running for the mayor seat of Karachi.
While the PPP’ candidates were elected unopposed in Sukkur and Hyderabad, it is facing a tough competition in Karachi mayor’s election.
PPP is leading with 155 seats in the Karachi city council, followed by JI securing 130 seats while PTI remained the third with 62 seats secured.

The total number of seats in the city council is 371 and the number required to win the mayor’s office is 186 members of the house.
With the current party position, no single party can elect their mayor of Karachi without the help of coalition partners.
PPP’s Qazi Abdur Rasheed Bhatti was elected unopposed as mayor of District Shaheed Benazirabad. Mubashir Arain has been elected as deputy chairman.
Qasim Naveed Qamar of the PPP got elected unopposed as chairman of Tando Muhammad Khan, while Ghulam Mustafa was elected as vice chairman.
From Tando Allah Yar, PPP’s Mir Ghulam Muhammad and Raees Yar Muhammad got elected unopposed as chairman and vice chairman, respectively.
PPP’s Gul Muhammad Khan was also elected unopposed as chairman, and Altaf Khan khoso as his vice for Kandhkot.
From Naushahro Feroze, PPP’s Sohail Abbasi and Ali Sher were elected unopposed as chairman and vice chairman, respectively.
PPP’s Pir Danish and Khalid Meerani were elected unopposed as chairman and vice chairman of Dadu, respectively.
In Moro, PPP’s Nazir Memon got elected unopposed as chairman, while Anwar Qaimkhani was elected unopposed as vice chairman.
In Darya Khan, PPP’s Ibrahim Brohi and Tahir Uddin were elected unopposed as chairman and vice chairman, respectively.
PPP has nominated Abdur Rauf Ghori for Mirpur Khas’s mayor seat and Junaid Buland for deputy mayor. They will contest against the MQM-P’s candidates.
