Jahangir Tareen served legal notice for copying party name

Jahangir Khan Tareen’s recently launched political party has encountered its first challenge as the founder of a party with a similar name served him a legal notice for copying the party’s name.

In the notice, Founder and President of Isteihkam-e-Pakistan Tehreek Ahmed Kaleem said that his political party was registered with the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) in 2022. The ECP allotted ‘coin’ as an electoral symbol to the party, he said.

The notice was sent to Istihkam-e-Pakistan Party’s Patron-in-Chief Jahangir Khan Tareen and President Abdul Aleem Khan on Wednesday.

Kaleem said that the formation of a new party with the same name is a clear violation of the Election Act 2017.

After dozens of PTI defectors joined him in the wake of the May 9 riots, Tareen formally launched Istihkam-e-Pakistan Party on June 8.
