With the Pakistan Cricket Board chairman election just around the corner; one of the key allies of the PDM government, PPP is in disagreement with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s nominated members for the post.
Shehbaz Sharif, who is also the patron-in-chief of PCB, has finalise Najam Sethi and Mustafa Ramday names for the PCB Chairman post.
However, PPP disagreed with the PM’s nomination and wants their candidate for the post. The Asif Ali Zardari-led party is eager to bring back the former Chairman, Zaka Ashraf, to the office.
They believe that as they hold the Ministry for Inter-Provincial Coordination, the authority to appoint the PCB chairman should be their prerogative.
Sethi and his 13-member Management Committee took charge in December last year. They want to reinforce the 2014 constitution on the board.
Imran Khan-led government revoked PCB’s 2014 constitution to introduce an Australia-like cricket structure in the country.
As a result, many cricketers and officials lost their jobs following the closure of departments.
