No contact with Jahangir Tareen, says Asad Umar

Former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Secretary General Asad Umar told reporters on Monday that he had no contact with Jahangir Tareen, as rumours of a new ‘King’s Party’ continue to grow.

Speaking to reporters informally after the Islamabad District Court extended his bail till June 10, Asad said that he did have on and off contact with Fawad Chaudhry.

When asked if he had been asked to resign from party positions by the establishment, Asad said that he had already answered this wuestion and wanted new questions to be asked.

Answering a question about ‘facing pressure’, Asad Umar laughed and said that the only pressure he was facing was regularly appearing in different courts to secure bail. He added that he had been to court almost every day since he had been released from jail.

The former PTI leader also declined to answer when a reporter asked him who Faisal Vawda, another disgruntled former PTI member, is allegedly working for.

“You should ask Faisal,” Asad Umar said.

Earlier, Sessions Judge Tahir Abbas Sipra extended Asad Umar’s bail till June 10 after the proecutor could not appear in court. The judge extended the bail and adjourned court without any proceedings. Asad Umar has cases against him in Tarnol police station.

PTI leaders have been leving the party in large numbers since the events of May 9. Some like Umar have merely resigned party positions, while others have not only left the party but withdrawn from politics altogether.

While a group of like-minded PTI leaders have formed a ‘Democrat’ group, rumours have circulated that a new party will soon be announced under Jahangir Taree, a former close aide of Imran Khan. Many PTI leaders who resigned are said to be in contact with Tareen.
