The man who killed his own daughter in the name of honour in Karachi’s City Court in January was freed from prison on Tuesday after all parties involved forgave him.
Ameer Jan had killed his 20-year-old daughter in the court’s premises on January 23 and had also injured two other people including a policeman. A case had been registered against him Police Station City Court.
However, he was released on Tuesday after the policeman and the slain girl’s ‘family’ forgave him.
According to court documents, Ameer Jan’s daughter, Hajrah, had married off her own will while her parents were trying to marry her off to someone else.
She had been called to court to testify in a case filed for her disappearance when her father opened fire and killed her on the spot. Her husband was not hurt in the incident.
The incident had raised questions on the level of security arranged for the court, which is packed full of people during work hours. The security incharge for the gate where the incident took place had been suspended and an inquiry had been ordered.
