The Punjab food department has launched an investigation into the free flour scheme scandal and sought records of flour from all Divisional Commissioner Officers.
Former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi had claimed that there has been Rs 20 billion embezzlement in the PTI government’s free flour distribution scheme.
The preliminary progress in the investigation found that 1.8 million bags of flour went missing across Punjab, including Lahore, sources told Aaj News.
The food department has sought out reports from nine Divisional Commissioners and Deputy Commissioners.
Moreover, Commissioner Lahore has directed all four DCs to form an inquiry committee over the matter.
More than 200,000 bags went missing in Kasur, 150,000 bags went missing in Sheikhupura and 50,000 bags in Nankana.
Millions of rupees worth of flour went missing in the Lahore division, sources said. The price of the missing flour in Lahore is said to be worth Rs130 million.
