One died and 18 were injured in an exchange of fire between policemen and attackers in the Tank district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Friday, said police. The gun battle started after unidentified men hurled a hand grenade at a police van near Marwat Market.
“Motorcycle riders threw a grenade at the police van on Bannu Road, injuring three policemen on the spot,” said Tank DPO Waqar Ahmed.
The civilian died on the way to the Dera Ismail Khan Hospital.
The Tank DPO said that attackers were being pursued and would be arrested soon. The Bomb Disposal Squad arrived at the spot to collect evidence.
Later, Ahmed said that the terrorist who attacked the police was killed.
All the wounded were shifted to DHQ hospital Tank where the administration had declared an emergency.
