Army Chief General Asim Munir Bajwa said that the incidents like those of May 9 will ‘never be allowed’ to take place again.
“COAS underscored that recently planned and orchestrated tragic incidents will never be allowed again at any cost,” a press release issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations after the army chief’s visit to Sialkot Garrision said.
“No one will be allowed to disrespect our shuhada and their monuments. They are a source of inspiration and pride for the rank and file of the Armed Forces, Law Enforcement Agencies, Government officials and the people of Pakistan,” the statement quoted the chief as saying.
The ISPR statement said that General Munir laid a wreath at the martyr’s monument and paid a tribute to the those killed in the line of duty.
“COAS reassured the ranks and files that all those responsible for bringing shame to the nation on Black Day of 9th May would certainly be brought to justice,” ISPR said.
Protests had broken out across Pakistan after Imran Khan was arrested by Rangers personnel from Islamabad High Court. The protests had turned violent in many places and had led to attacks on multiple government buildings including the Corp Commander House in Lahore.
A corp commanders conference has already decided that perpetrators of the attack will be tried under the Army Act and the decision has been ratified by the National Security Committee as well.
