President Arif Alvi called on Imran Khan at the Police Lines guest house H-11, Islamabad on Thursday night.
Imran Khan has been put into the guest house under Supreme Court’s ‘supervision’ after he moved the court saying his arrest on Wednesday was illegal. The court had also allowed him 10 visitors and asked him to appear in Islamabad High Court on Friday.
Apart from Alvi, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leaders Saifullah Niazi and Shibli Faraz also visited Imran Khan.
Earlier in the day, President Alvi had called for a re-think to arrive at a political solution to solve the ongoing crisis after Imran Khan’s arrest in a tweet.
“I am alarmed, shocked & deeply disturbed over the current situation in the country arising out of the arrest & manhandling of the former PM Imran Khan,” he had written.
“I have conveyed my concerns to the political & military leadership & am hopeful that the situation can improve. I strongly appeal to all citizens of the country to remain peaceful.”
Later in the day, he had also a written a letter to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif bringing his attention to the arrest of Imran Khan from court premises.
“The clumsy hubris in which his arrest was carried out has tarnished the image of Pakistan in the international community,” he wrote in the letter. He added that Imran’s followers had become emotionally charged but they should remain peaceful.
“Please do ensure that the constitutional rights of Mr Imran Khan are not violated and his life is fully secured.”
